Spruce Yellow: Desalination
Application:
- Pre-Treatment as a lower cost, higher performance alternative to sand or dual media.
Performance:
- Turbidity/suspended solids reduction to give SDI<3
- Reduce footprint by up to 75% by ability to run at velocities up to 60m/hr.
- Chemical free, coagulants not required in standard installations
- Reduce frequency of membrane chemical cleanings by up to 4 times
- Prolong life of any cartridge filters that may be being used as a final barrier
Example: KAUST Desalination Project
Issue:
- KAUST (King Abdullahs Univesity of Science and Technology) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia required a chemical free pre-treatment for a 120 Million Litres per day SWRO plant.
Solution:
- Bespoke Spruce Yellow
- Initial design specified 16 dual media filters. Utilising the FilterClear solution cut this by 75%.
- Spruce Yellow filters are the same size as those specified for the dual media solution, resulting in a footprint requirement reduction of 75% with the associated savings in civil works.
Results:
- No chemical coagulants or flocculants required
- Over 50% Capex cost savings
- Over 66% Opex cost savings
- SDI less than 3 from inlet waters with turbidity in excess of 10NTU
